Overview

Since its founding in 1985, Saatchi Gallery exists as a registered charity to provide an innovative platform for contemporary art and culture. As part of its ongoing commitment to providing an exceptional environment for both art enthusiasts and exhibitors, the gallery undertook an initiative in 2024 to upgrade its wireless network infrastructure. The existing system, powered by reliable Ruckus and Cisco hardware, had served the gallery well, offering secure internal networks and supporting essential IoT devices.

However, with evolving technological demands and a growing number of visitors, Saatchi Gallery sought an even more advanced solution to meet its needs for greater efficiency, visibility, and cost-effectiveness.

As we wanted to ensure that our network could not only support the gallery’s current demands but also scale with future growth. We have researched the market for an affordable solution that can satisfy our demands for a smaller price. We identified several solutions and shortlisted two based on the specs. Plasma Cloud and their UK master distributor, Utility Networks, were far better in willingness to present their solution and even send demo devices for testing on-site, compared to the other solution we were willing to test and maybe acquire. Plasma Cloud provided the perfect solution for that evolution.

Challenge

The gallery’s previous network was robust, but with older WiFi 5 technology, it was becoming increasingly important to explore new ways to enhance both visitor experiences and operational capabilities. The Saatchi Gallery team recognized that they needed greater visibility into network performance, better scalability, and more flexibility in management, all while being mindful of budget.

Solution

After thoroughly researching available options, the gallery selected Plasma Cloud for its state-of-the-art WiFi 6 technology and the flexibility of its cloud-based management platform. Plasma Cloud’s demo was impressively responsive to Saatchi Gallery’s requirements, leading to a smooth transition from the previous infrastructure. The new system, which includes Plasma Cloud’s PAX1800 WiFi Access Points and 2x PS24-L PoE Switches, offers superior client capacity, enhanced roaming capabilities, and client throttling, ensuring that all visitors and staff receive optimal bandwidth wherever they are in the gallery.

Results

The new Plasma Cloud system has elevated Saatchi Gallery’s connectivity to new heights, providing enhanced performance for visitors and staff alike. With improved reliability, greater capacity, and a more intuitive management system, the gallery can now ensure a seamless online experience for its 150,000 annual visitors. This upgrade not only boosts the experience for gallery-goers but also supports future innovations and growth.

This case study shows Saatchi Gallery's commitment to continuously improving its services while maintaining a strong foundation. The upgrade to Plasma Cloud represents an enhancement to an already solid infrastructure, ensuring the gallery remains a leader in providing cutting-edge experiences to its visitors and exhibitors.
